Can the career that you choose, affect you in the job industry later in life?

It is a beautiful Monday morning. Today’s topic is about choosing a career, and getting a job in that industry. For me to tell you my story, we have to go back to 2011. Back in 2011, I was struggling to study a career. I decided to go with Medical Assistant, why? Because I love to help people, I’m empathetic. The class started in Sep, I was nervous, but after the first practice, I loved it. Note that in medical assistant class we practiced on each other. I learned how to prepare and administer injections, from intramuscular, to sub q to z-track to intradermal. I learned how to draw blood. The more I practiced the more I liked it. My grades were exceptionally high. March of 2012 had arrived, and it was time for us to leave, and stretch our wings. After finishing the class, my next goal was to find a clinic to do my externship. What is an externship? It’s where I was going to apply all the things I learned in class and apply it in the clinic. I found a clinic and I did my practice, unfortunately, the one in charge of hiring, told me that I better improve on my blood pressure skills, otherwise she would have to let me go, as they don’t hire medical assistant student. I improved a lot, and it was time for me to leave. I returned to school to finish medical terminology, medical keyboarding, and Word. I got my diploma, but before I left, I saw on the board, all the students who graduated as a medical assistant and found a job within three months of graduation, guess what? I wasn’t on that board. Since graduating as a medical assistant, I unfortunately have not found a job. I have gone on lots of interviews, one in particular, health care partners. The woman who interviewed me, said that she will not hire me as a medical assistant, because I don’t have experience. The other day I applied for a job at anthem. I got a email saying that they hired a experienced medical assistant, since I don’t have the experience, they chose not to hire me, leaving me to ask: can the career that you choose, affect you in the job industry later in life? Well the answer is yes. It can affect you, it’s been 5 years, and for 5 years I have not found a job as a medical assistant, something that hurts, because I love that career, and for someone to tell you, “oh you don’t have experience” is horrible. But I don’t give up, because I have learned that there are a lot of people who expect you to fail and to fail miserably, I won’t let that happen.
